From Bulletproof Safes to Bond’s Bubbly

SAFE HAVEN

undefined

Germany’s Buben&Zorweg manufactures safes that can keep pace with the most impressive creations of the watchmaking elite. Their latest offering, dubbed the Solitaire Vision, is a six and-a-half foot tall timepiece haven that costs $242,000 and is more luxurious than most people’s houses. With space for 46 watches – i.e. a lifetime’s collection – including its own built-in clock with a world time indication and tourbillon escapement – it’s protected by bullet-proof glass and adorned with exotic wood. An integrated alarm system keeps out sticky fingers, and did we mention it also has a bar, an integrated hi-fi system and a humidor for fine cigars? Not even 007 has a cabinet as cool as this.

BOND’S BUBBLY

undefined

Speaking of the legendary British secret agent, did you know that James Bond’s champagne of choice isn’t Krug or Dom but Bollinger? The famed French champagne house, founded in 1829, has had a partnership via gentlemen’s agreement (i.e. non-monetary) since Moonraker in 1979. Rather refreshing in this age of pernicious product placement deals. Also refreshing: Bollinger’s effervescent new limited-edition Bollinger Rosé 2006, the maison’s first ever vintage rosé release. The brand says it is nothing less than “alchemy”, and having had a taste we have to agree; but best get your hands on a bottle before Bond drinks it all.

SMOKE SHOW

When you think cigars you probably think Cuban, but some of the world’s very best smokes come courtesy of Italy’s Toscano. Made using fermented Kentucky tobacco, the company, founded by the Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1818, rose to international fame when Clint Eastwood continuously puffed on one in Once Upon a Time in the West and then kept smoking them off set.

In celebration of its 100th anniversary Toscano is releasing a cool new book with Rizzoli that’s an homage to stylish stogies with a sort of sartorial flavor that only the Italian’s really know how to do. Even if you don’t smoke you’ll want to add this volume to your gentleman’s library we’re sure.
