Champ d’Or, The French Chateau-styled Palace, Headed to Auction

What’s the saying… Everything’s bigger in Texas? Well, Champ d’Or definitely went big.

This 48,000-square-foot mansion in Hickory Creek, about 30 miles north of Dallas, has six bedrooms and a total of 14 bathrooms. It’s being auctioned with no reserve on June 28 by Concierge Auctions. The range of the opening bid is expected to be between $5.5 million and $10 million.

Inspired by Paris’ Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte and set on 40 acres of land, Champ d’Or was built in 2002 at a cost of $52 million, according to the listing, meaning you could be getting quite the bargain.

Originally the dream of Alan Goldfield, former head of the CellStar Corp., and his wife, Shirley, the home has a storied listing history. It was listed in late 2015 for $17.5 million by current owner Zaffar Tabani, Mansion Global reported. At the time, the listing included a helicopter and a Rolls Royce, but they are no longer part of the deal.

Mr. Tabani then told Mansion Global he was selling because he “didn’t “spend enough time” at the mansion. In a recent statement, he added, “As we enter the next chapter of our lives, [we] choose to downsize and be closer to our grandchildren.” He did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment Thursday.

The 17th century French architecture shines from the moment guests come up the drive, which is surrounded by manicured lawns and gardens. The entrance to the four-story abode is just as grand, with a marble foyer, double-height ceilings and a staircase with an iron and copper railing leading to the ballroom.

With its ample size, the ballroom is perfect for inviting a few guests—or a few hundred—over for an impromptu concert on its grand piano. Entertaining is made easier with a catering kitchen with a commercial-grade appliances.

Or take the party outside: there’s a veranda for up to 450 people.

There’s also a formal dining room, which opens up onto an enclosed patio, according to the listing, plus a home theater, a library and a tea room inspired by New York City’s Tavern on the Green restaurant. The house also includes a two-lane bowling alley, racquetball court and a gift wrap room.

The master suite has its own spa and lap pool, as well as a breakfast bar, hair salon and a Chanel-inspired, two-story closet. There are three separate apartments with their own kitchens for guests or staff.

Outside, there’s a pool and large pool house, a tennis court and a garage for up to 20 cars, the listing said. The house has a fully automated cooling and heating system, plus a gated private entry with a security manager’s office.
